A striking and unusual painting dated fall 1892, ink on satin. With original wooden box signed Rotei, the inscription in the box states that it was beloved of a stone priest. Stone paintings are called Sekigan-zu. There is also a 4 line song and a long attribution to two poets. Very good to excellent condition, green brocade mounting with rosewood rollers.

This was purchased from Sotheby's New York by me in January of 2001. Comes in a fitted box signed and sealed by the artist of obvious age. The description was "Kano School Painting of Herons in Marsh. Done in the style of Kano Tan'yu 17th century master, Ryocihi Ida. Horizontal creases on painting and mounting, 19th century." Signed Tan'yu sai hitsu with seal Morinobu. Ink on silk. about 70 by 20 inches total.

This is a nice 20th century metal toy samurai sword that would be presented to a boy on Boys Day – traditionally held on March 3rd. The sword was intended to imbue in the boy a sense of honor and strength as shown by the samurai of old. This miniature sword is made of metal and is intricately made with simulated sharks skin handle, a tiny sword guard (tsuba) and a decorated scabbard with a relief dragon going down the side. This coat worn over the armor is the one in Edo period (the end of shogunate). The part of the collar is silk weaving textile. Another is cotton. The part of the collar of the chest was changed by Nishijin textile from Taishou era to the Showa era. However, the lining and the outer material certainly have the feature of textil in Edo period.
